About QueueSafe

QueueSafe is a free, community-powered app that gives South Africans real-time visibility into queue wait times at government offices, banks, licensing departments, and other essential service centres.

If you've ever driven to Home Affairs only to find a two-hour queue, or arrived at a licensing office just before closing time, QueueSafe was built for you. We believe your time is valuable, and nobody should waste it waiting in the dark.

The app works by combining two sources of data: crowd-sourced signals submitted by people who are physically at a location right now, and historical patterns built up over time from those same signals. Together, these give you a realistic picture of what to expect before you leave home.

QueueSafe is designed for everyday South Africans who regularly need to visit government service points — Home Affairs, SARS, licensing departments, municipal offices, post offices, and banks. It is completely free to use and requires no registration or account.

You can also set personalised alerts so that the app notifies you the moment a queue at your chosen location drops below a time threshold you're comfortable with. That means you can get on with your day and only head in when the timing is right.

QueueSafe is built and maintained by a small South African development team passionate about civic technology. Our mission is simple: use technology to reduce the friction of everyday life for ordinary South Africans. We are continuously expanding the number of locations covered and improving the accuracy of our estimates as more people contribute signals.

Have a suggestion, found an issue, or want to add a location? We'd love to hear from you — reach out at eish@queuesafe.co.za.
